IPC Designer Certification Program (CID)

The IPC Designer Certification or CID (Certified Interconnect Designer) is the industry’s premier professional development program directly focused on PCB design philosophy and requirements. If your passion is the transformation of electrical schematics and descriptions into works of art that can be manufactured, assembled and tested, this program is for you.

This 4-day, lectured course (3-days lecture, 1-day testing and review), goes beyond the fundamentals of component placement and track routing to encompass a complete understanding of all the elements that go into the development of a printed circuit board, from design consideration, layout principles, component and assembly issues, to the overall physical demands and requirements that need to be met to create a producible, quality product.

Continuing the educational series for PCB Design, the IPC Advanced Designer Certification or CID+ (Advanced Certified Interconnect Designer) is the ultimate professional industry certification for a designer looking to obtain what we would consider the highest possible PCB Design status in the industry. This certification gains you instant recognition in the industry as a designer that has obtained, executed and applied the concepts of design from schematic capture to production of a final product rolling out the door.

Gary has over 45 years’ experience in electronic packaging with an emphasis on printed board (PWB) design and manufacturing. He has held senior Operations, Quality and Engineering positions in both OEM and supplier based environments: most recently, as the past Executive Director and Co-Founder of the IPC Designers Council. He served as chairman of the IPC Technical Activities Executive Committee, guiding IPC technical activities during his term. He has written numerous technical articles, and has provided design for manufacture (DFM) consulting services to the industry.  Gary spearheaded IPC's highly successful PWB Designers Certification Program, which has trained and recognized over 6000 designers to date.
